The Nazarene Church

The Church of the Nazarene (www.nazarene.org) was founded in 1908 and today has 1.5 million people attending over 10,000 churches worldwide.  Having a high commitment to education, it sponsors eight liberal arts colleges and one graduate seminary in the United States, plus two liberal arts colleges and 41 bible colleges in other world areas.  Over 700,000 volumes of books and six million copies of periodicals are published annually by Nazarene Publishing House, making it the fifth largest denominational publisher in the world.

Our Local Church History

Garnett Church of the Nazarene (part of the Joplin District) was founded in 1961 with 15 charter members and occupied a small building on 59 highway.  In 1963 it moved to its present location and built their first facility, then again in 1991 they moved into their present worship center.  In 2001, they doubled the worship center.  In 2002, they built their multi-purpose building , which eventually will become the final worship center.

Throughout its history the church has tried to minister to the people of this community through its programs and worship services. It has enabled people to work both at home and around the world spreading the good news of Christ's message.
